Punjab is a forerunner state on e-governance. Its digital initiative empowers the people of the state to access citizen services under one roof in the most transparent and accountable manner.
BLS International Services Ltd., a specialist provider for Outsourcing of Visa, Passport and Attestation Services across the globe, was awarded with the contract of providing citizen services at 2,147 Sewa Kendras. From the simplest birth certificate to property registration, such records are now within easy access of the citizens.
E-governance for greater trust and accountability
BLS International operates, maintains, and manages Sewa Kendras where citizens avail essential service/records. These centres minimises public interaction, cuts red tape, enhances efficiency, and eliminates middlemen and corruption in the delivery of services in a time-bound manner.
These Sewa Kendras provide 78 citizen-centric services to people of Punjab under one roof. The basic services include: providing birth and death certificates, marriage certificates, banking services, voter cards, electricity bills, etc besides all government departments.

The contract is capped at Rs.1,500 crore ( 230 million USD ) but there is a scope of lot of earnings through VAS which constitute 30% to 35% of total revenue. The success of this project would also open doors to similar e-governance initiatives in the other 29 states of India.
