Processing Time:
Normally it takes minimum 3-6 working days to process visas for ethnic- Norwegian nationals and for applicants who are not ethnic Norwegian (i.e. are originally from another country, hold a previous nationality or born in a foreign land), an additional 5 working days processing time is required.

Surrogacy
Check Indian Embassy's website for the necessary information on the policies on surrogacy. The processing time depends on the Embassy of India, Oslo.
Any person seeking a visa to India for purpose of entering into a surrogacy arrangement must ascertain beforehand whether the law of that country permits surrogacy and will provide appropriate travel documents to the child for accompanying the surrogate parents. Entering into surrogacy arrangement under any other visa not sought for surrogacy is punishable under the Indian law. Applicants are advised to contact the Consular Section of the Embassy before making surrogacy arrangement.
Tourist Visa

Double Entries
If you are travelling to any neighboring countries, you should enclose copy of the copies of the tickets with each application. If you are applying for Multiple entries, then a detailed letter addressed to the Embassy the reason behind applying for multiple entries.
Application for children
- Parent Declaration, which is listed in our website, should be signed be filled along with the applications of children below the age of 15.
- All children need their own passport and their own visa.
Journalists & professionals
Note that Journalists who apply for a tourist visa will have to fill in the visa type as Journalist Visa and mention the purpose of visit to be Tourism . The fee to be paid is Journalist Visa fee only. (We follow this as per the instructions of the Indian Embassy, Oslo.)
The applicants who are photographers, media professionals (other than journalists) and freelancers should also enclose an undertaking that the trip is only for tourism and will not take part in activities related to their profession, while applying for Tourist Visa. Transit Visa

Entry Visa

Journalist Visa

The processing time is strictly at the discretion of Embassy.
Journalists on tourism to India should also apply only for Journalist Visa only. The processing time however in this case will be same as any normal tourist visa applications.
Employment Visa

ELIGIBILITY
Criteria for a Tourist Visa
A Tourist Visa can only be granted to a foreigner who does not have a residence or occupation in India and whose sole objective of visiting India is recreation, sight seeing, casual visit to meet friends and relatives etc. No other activity is permissible on a Tourist Visa. The Tourist Visa is non-extendable and non-convertible.
There shall be a gap of at least 2 months between two visits to India on a Tourist Visa subject to following guidelines:-
- Some foreign nationals holding Tourist Visas, after initial entry into India, plan to visit another country largely on account of neighbourhood tourism and need to re-enter India within 60 days, before finally exiting. Such persons may be permitted up to three entries (need based) by the Indian Missions/Posts subject to their submission of a detailed itinerary and supporting documentation (ticket bookings). If the foreign national is already outside his/her country of origin, he/she can also get such an endorsement on his/her passport from the nearest Indian Mission/Post.
- The Immigration authorities in all the Immigration Check Posts in the country may also allow such foreign nationals on Tourist Visas arriving in India without the specific authorization from the Indian Missions/Posts (as mentioned in sub-para (I) above) to make maximum three entries into the country (need based) subject to production of travel itinerary and supporting documentation (ticket bookings).
- Once such a foreign national finally exits the country after availing the facility of three entries (within the visa validity period or the stay stipulation period), there shall be a gap of at least 2 months from the date of final exit before he/she can come again to the country.
- If any foreign national falling in the category as mentioned above is required to visit India again within a period of 2 months after his/her last departure availing the facility of three entries due to any exigent situation, such foreign national should obtain special permission from the Mission/Post for a re-entry. Such re-entry within the stipulated gap of two months may be permitted by the Missions/Posts only in emergent situations like death/serious illness in the family, non-availability of connecting flights to return to his/her country of origin or travel to another country using India as a transit point or any other exigent situation which can be duly justified with proper documentation to the satisfaction of the Mission/ Post granting the permission subject to the following conditions:-

- That the purpose of his/her visit is because of emergency situation.
- That he is not engaged in Business activities, nor in Employment or pursuing studies/research etc. in India.

Criteria for a Business Visa
- Foreign nationals who want to visit India to establish industrial/business venture or to explore possibilities to set up industrial/business venture in India.
- Foreign nationals coming to India to purchase/sell industrial products or commercial products or consumer durables.
- Foreign nationals coming to India for technical meetings/discussions, attending Board meetings, general meetings for providing business services support.
- Foreign nationals coming to India for technical meeting/discussions, attending Board meetings, general meetings for providing business services support.
- Foreign nationals who are partners in the Business and/or functioning as Directors in the company.
- Foreign nationals coming to India for consultations regarding exhibitions, for participation in exhibitions, trade fairs, business fairs etc.
- Foreign buyers who come to transact business with suppliers/potential suppliers at locations in India, to evaluate or monitor quality, give specifications, place orders, negotiate further supplies etc. relating to goods or services procured from India.
- Foreign experts/specialists on a visit of short duration in connection with an ongoing project with the objective of monitoring the progress of the work, conducting meetings with Indian customers and/or to provide some high level technical guidance.
- Foreign nationals coming to India for pre-sales or post-sales activity not amounting to actual execution of any contract or project.
- Foreign Trainees of multinational companies/corporate houses coming for in-house training in the regional hubs of the concerned company located in India.
- Foreign students sponsored by AIESEC for internship on project based work in companies/industries.
- Foreign nationals who are coming to India on short visits to customer location to repair any plant or machinery as part of warranty or annual maintenance contracts.
- Foreign engineers/technicians coming to India for installation and commissioning of equipments/machines/tools in terms of the contract for supply of such equipment/machine/tools.
- Foreign experts coming to India for imparting training for the personnel of the Indian Company.
- Foreign personnel deputed for providing technical support/services, transfer of know-how, services supplied for which the Indian company pays fees/royalty to the foreign company.
- Foreign nationals coming as tour conductors and travel agents and/or conducting business tours of foreigners or business relating to it, etc.
Employment visa
"The Employment Visa would be issued from the country of origin, or from the country of domicile of the foreigner provided the period of permanent residence of the applicant in that particular country is for more than 2 years."
Criteria for Employment Visa
- The applicant is a highly skilled/skilled and qualified professional or person who is being engaged or appointed by a company, organization, industry, or undertaking, etc. in India on contract or employment basis at a senior level, skilled position such as technical expert, senior executive, or in a managerial position, etc.
- Employment Visa would not be granted for jobs for which large numbers of qualified Indians are available. Furthermore, Employment Visa would not be granted for routine, ordinary or secretarial/clerical jobs.
- The foreign national should be coming for employment in companies registered in India.
- The foreign national must hold a valid passport, and a re-entry permit if that is required under the law of the country of nationality of the applicant, or country of domicile, as applicable.
- The foreign national will have to comply with all other requirements like payment of tax liabilities etc., and is advised to acquaint himself/herself with these before reaching India.
- The foreign national must submit proof of his/her employment or contract or engagement by the company/organization, etc. in India.
- The foreign national must submit documentary proof of his/her educational qualifications and professional expertise.
Detailed Documents Checklist for Employment Visa
- Online Visa application form should be filled out in English.
- One passport-sized colour photograph is to be pasted on visa application form.
- Contract of Employment.
- Visa support letter from the employer company mentioning:
- Total number of existing employees
- Number of foreigners employed
- Profile of the company
In addition to above the applicant deputed to India for the execution of a project/contract need to furnish following additional documents/information:
- Copy of the contract between Indian and the Norwegian company.
- Visa support letter from the Indian company which shall also be responsible for the conduct of the foreign national during his stay and also for his departure upon expiry of visa.
- Visa support letter from the foreign company. If an existing employee of the foreign company is deputed for the execution of the contract/project then it should be clarified in the visa support letter. Alternatively, if the applicant is engaged only for the
execution of the contract/project then copy of the Employment Contract may be provided.
Entry Visa ('X' Visa)
Entry Visa for the family members of those who are going on long term Business visa or Employment Visa

- One passport-sized colour photograph is to be pasted on visa application form
- Letter from 'Business' or 'Employment' visa holder's company requesting for visa to the family members. In case the 'Business' or 'Employment' visa is already issued then copy of visa is also needed.
Entry Visa for sports teams and sports persons:

- Letter from the sponsoring sports authority holding the sport event in India.
Entry Visa for Study in YOGA, VEDIC CULTURE, INDIAN SYSTEM OF MUSIC, DANCE, ETC

Conference Visa
Visa to attend conference/seminar/workshop can be issued if it is being organized in India by a Ministry or Department of the Government of India, State Governments, Public Sector undertakings, Central Educational Institutions, Public funded Universities or an organization owned and controlled by Government of India State Governments, United Nations or its specialized agencies.
The conference/seminar/workshop sponsored by a NGO will subject to further scrutiny.
Documents to be attached with each visa application for Conference Visa
- Clearance from nodal/line ministry concerning that Central/State Government has cleared /approved the Conference/Seminar/Workshop.
- Invitation from the organization hosting the Conference/Seminar.
- Visa support letter from the institute/ organization where the applicant is employed. (Original)
