Renunciation of citizenship (cancellation of citizenship)

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS FOR RENUNCIATION OF INDIAN CITIZENSHIP

 

Documents required for Renunciation of Citizenship: 

Following documents are required to be submitted along with the RC form, which can be registered online via the following link on online portal of MHA https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounce (please use google chrome) and link https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html.(for surrender) The renouncer will fill all his/her details in BLOCK/CAPITAL LETTERS and upload relevant documents in above mentioned website, take a print-out and visit BLS centres for signing the declaration before the concerned and to submit the print-out of the application with supporting documents:

 

• 1. Print-out of the registration form
• 2. One recent coloured photograph with white background (size 51mmX51mm) taken less than 6 months
• 3. A copy of the existing or expired Indian passport,
• 4. Letter from ICA for Singapore Citizenship or Citizenship letter from the country concerned,
• 5. Valid residential status proof (NRIC/EP/WP/SP/DP) in Singapore with valid page. Originals of the above need to be produced, if asked for.
• 6. Step by step filling procedure is mentioned at the end of this page. PLEASE SEE THE PROCEDURE BEFORE FILLING THE APPLICATION. HCI will not be responsible for any wrongly mentioned details/non-uploading of documents and paying fees without checking.
• 7. Once the forms are ready, for cancellation of passport and receiving the surrender certificate, link https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.htmlto be filled and submitted along with the renunciation application form.
• 8. Those who are unable to make payment online, can make payment to BLS directly for both Renunciation and Surrender Certificate together as per the prescribed fees.

 

Application fees for Renunciation must be paid online in the system after submission. The amount will be automatically reflected while preferring this page.The surrender certificate fees may be paid to BLS.

Processing time for Renunciation Letter is 30-60 days.

For Surrender Certificate (those who have already renounced or need a copy etc), the processing time is 6-8 working days and the fees have been mentioned in the high commission website under various fees.           

Only those individuals who have received In principle Approval from ICA, can renounce Indian citizenship. All others, who already possess Singapore passport/foreign passports, can only apply for Surrender Certificate. they have to surrender Indian passport immediately using link https://portal6.passportindia.gov.in/Online/index.html and collect the Surrender Certificate in 5-8 working days.

Applicant will be provided with acknowledgement in Form XXIII after his signed application/declaration is successfully uploaded by the HCI. The acknowledgment will be sent by mail to the applicant. 

The Constitution of India does not permit holding of dual nationality by Indian nationals. As and when an Indian national obtains a foreign nationality/citizenship, he/she is not permitted to retain his/her Indian Passport and must surrender his/her passport. On acquisition of foreign citizenship, all Indian nationals should surrender the passport if acquired before 31.05.2010 or renounce citizenship after 31.05.2010.

The decision of the competent authority on declaration of renunciation of Indian citizenship shall be conveyed to the applicant through e-mail. On acceptance of the declaration by the Competent Authority, a signed Renunciation Certificate alongwith the Surrender Certificate for the passport cancellation will be sent to the application to the address through BLS, if courier service is opted.

FOR INDIAN NATIONALS WHO ARE ACQUIRING FOREIGN CITIZENSHIP:

As per the new guidelines, when the parent applies for renunciation, the form in the link https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in/Renounceautomatically seeks details of minor children. Details of children holding Indian passport only need to be mentioned. Separate forms need not be filled individually for such minors. The other parent can apply individually. Needless to mention, the minor child automatically ceases to be an Indian Citizen.

 

Note:

1. Applicant may note the legal provisions under section 8 of the Citizenship Act, 1955 which provides that where a person ceases to be citizen of India on renunciation of citizenship under section 8(1), every minor child of that person shall thereupon cease to be a citizen of India. However, such child may, within one year after attaining full age, can make a declaration in the prescribed form and manner that he/she wishes to resume Indian citizenship.
2. A person who has ceased to be Indian citizen is required to surrender the documents which he/she had acquired based on his/her Indian citizenship eg. Voter id card etc) to the authorities concerned.

STEPS FOR FILLING UP THE FORM AS PER NEW GUIDELINES:

Initiate application by clicking the Blue icon.

Sl No.1 Applicant Details: Fill the applicant details by also including the children details as sought in the form and submit.Only details of children holding Indian passport need to be filled. If child holds other country nationality, you can avoid.

Sl No.2.Children details: Further as sought in the application, fill the details in the form for the additional details of children and submit.

Sl No.3 : Provide details of addressas sought. You can provide your local address in Singapore and submit.There is an option to fill Indian address, please fill it.

Sl .No. 4: Upload documents: The documents must be uploaded as sought in the form. Note only current Indian passport and current address details to be uploaded and submit. After uploading current Indian passport and current address proof details which should be the IC copy, please upload ICA letter, aadhar/pan copy in other documents.

Sl No. 5: Final Submission: Fill in the form as sought and submit.

Please note: IT IS IN THE APPLICANT’S OWN INTEREST THAT THEY CHECK WITH HCI/BLS REGARDING THE DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED BE VERIFIED/APPROVED. ONCE DONE ONLY PLEASE PROCEED TO MAKE PAYMENT. The payment is being made to MHA directly and cannot be reimbursed please.

Sl  No.6 : Payment: After final submission, make the payment online. Keep a hard copy of the receipt to be shown to BLS as proof of payment made.

A temporary file will be generated. If there are any modifications to make, go to picture A page and click the Green icon and modify. Once done, Take a print by clicking the Yellow icon.

Submit the application alongwith the documents to BLS international by taking appointment and paying the fees.
